We are a professional, ethical company offering quality learning and unbeatable services. Good day folks. My name is James Gillis and I will be your primary contact here at All Purpose Tutoring. A little bit about me: I am a family man, husband and father of three. I come from Cape Breton Island but I have lived in Halifax for many years. While at university, St. Mary's and Dalhousie I worked as a teaching assistant. Just recently I returned from China where I worked as a professional trainer/teacher, instructing students in all high-school subjects. In China and here in Canada I have extensive experience helping students with their preparations for major tests (SAT, SSAT, LSAT, IELTS, TOEFL). In China, I also taught English as a second language at all levels, elementary school, high school, university and as a staff member working for language teaching corporations (Wall Street English, Disney English, English First). While in China I also worked in business consulting, in the IT field, quality assurance, matters related to law and international trade. I have a very broad university background, in language studies, law, science, philosophy of art. Additionally, I have considerable industry experience and certification in IT, computer/motion graphics. I am a painter and a musician, and though I am not formally trained in these areas, I do have a performance background and a background in the philosophy of art. I have confidence in my ability to provide historical/culture perspective, and general instruction in art/music. On our staff, here at All Purpose Tutoring, we have a fine team of instructors/tutors and in this way we are prepared to meet the needs of a full range of student -- the serious full-time student, those students who are involved in study as a hobby or as a means of self-improvement, those students who require assistance for business/employment reasons.
